> Forum Update, Part 2
Posted by Ivan - 06-28-07 15:12 - 16 comments
As things in life often do, we're changing a few items. Previously I told you we'd be backing up the forum. This is now incorrect. Kevin, Boss and I had a conference call today, and we're going to keep things as is, but we're going to move the forum to a different host (Kevin will host it). This should prevent any and all of those IPS errors that we're all getting from the host right now.

Along with that, Boss is in the works to adding a few more CS servers (perhaps source, or DoD as interest piques) in the next few weeks. Kevin is going to speak with James at CRNC to reformat East and install an auto control panel that runs the server with almost no interaction (though it will still have admins).

I am putting a ranked BF2 server online in the next 48 hours, and another server that will run NWN. The BF2 server will be 16 player at first. If enough interest is there, it will be expanded.

That is where we currently stand. We appreciate your patience and your support.

Finally found Boss. He was drunk, sitting in a booth in a run down bar in Bangkok. But my FSB friends found him and brought him back. Kevin is working with him to restore the previous forum information while at the same time keeping the current forum structure. So the vision will stay the same, but if it's possible to bring back the posts and everyone's post count, then great.

I'll let you know more as I know it.

Additionally, as for servers, Boss is moving between data centers at the moment. East will be the only CS server we've got for a few weeks. There will be a BF2 one shortly (EA is almost fixed with the stats) and an ongoing NWN one as well.

More soon.

> Community Vision Change ***

Well, it would appear that the forum problems have resulted in a wipe of previous posts. I've tried and tried to fix it, but it would seem the only way (according to Kevin) is to contact the host and see if they have a backup. I cannot seem to get in touch with Boss Hogg (he must have gone to vacation somewhere in the West Indies) so it is what it is. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perception), post counts were reset. I've created some levels for posters to acheive, but the groups you are in won't change (the members, regulars, etc). Only your title will change with post count.

There are a few section changes. First, the gaming section. TgZ will continue to focus on four games going forward: CounterStrike (which includes Source, DoD, and other modifications), Battlefield 2, World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights.

The number and type of CS servers to be operated is still up for thought - and once Boss comes back from the moon or wherever he went, I'll chat with him about it. Additionally, a BF2 server (16 player at first) will be set up for play. It will be ranked, and will record stats through EA if EA ever gets off their duff and fixes the stat problem.

The World of Warcraft group, should they ever pop their head up out of the game to breathe, will exist on their own forum. If they never pop up to see the rest of us, this might go the way of the dinosaur.

Lastly, TgZ will host a NWN persistant world, as well as an ongoing campaign for those who wish to play.

All of these games are relatively cheap and have a decent user community. New games will be evaluated based on the number of players interested going forward.

The admin section has been generalized to include all games. Who is actually an admin of what will be determined later. Right now, admins who are active remain so. Nothing changes.

The poll section was removed. It was stupid in the first place and annoying.

Everything else stays as is. The rules on the servers will be somewhat relaxed going forward (though I've not gotten Boss's full approval on this). We're an older group now, and more specific. There's no need to be silly and ultra right wing conservative about how we run servers. The rules for the forums, however, stay the same. This is the first impression we give of people, and we're not about to come off sounding like a bunch of 12 year olds who think they're cool. Keep profanity to the Boar's Nest.

I'll post more soon. Someone find Boss Hogg.

I tried to reorder and create some forums, but for some reason, the entire board went nuts. I didn't do anything special, but who knows. I've called Boss and he's said he is working on it. Hang in there.

You can post in this thread (I think).
